Image of a computer being protected from virusesJust a quick heads up, folks: there’s a new computer virus threat making the rounds. This one targets Windows boxes, not Macs, and it’s delivered via email, with a subject line that seems to indicate you have a hotel refund waiting.

My first clue was: “Hey, I haven’t stayed in a hotel in a while.”

If that doesn’t apply to you, your first clue might be a hotel name you don’t recognize, or the fact that the message reads like it was written by a non-English speaker.

If you’ve opened the email, not-to-worry. But do not open the zip file that’s attached, just delete the whole thing.

“Hey, let’s be careful out there.”

This article gives you a quick way to check your website statistics using cPanel. The images below are taken from the HostGator cPanel; you’ll find other hosts have similar setups.

1. Log in to the cPanel. Your host gave you an address that is unique, just for your site (and it doesn’t look very user-friendly). Go to that address and sign in with your user name and password. Here’s an example of a HostGator cPanel URL:

2. Scroll down the page a little bit. On the left is a small area that displays a few statistics; this is the highest view, or summary, of traffic to your WordPress website.

First view of site statistics is in the box on the left

3. Click on the words “View All Traffic,” and in the next screen, select your domain and then click View. You’ll be taken to a page with lots of details.

The top two sections of the page show you some detail, but still in a summary view.

And the second section gives you a nice view of your monthly history, year-to-date.

As you go down the page, there are many, many more sections, full of information. You can look at traffic for days of the month, or days of the week, or even hours of the day. And that’s just the beginning.

If your web host provides a cPanel, this is a quick and easy way to check the traffic to your WordPress website.
